Mushroom Sauce

Delicious served over chicken, steak, pasta, and rice. Serve alongside Hungarian-Style Letcho for a gourmet appetizer.

2 onions, diced
oil, for sauteing
2 stalks celery, diced
8 ounce can of mushrooms, sliced
1 cup water
2 teaspoons corn starch
1 teaspoon paprika
salt and black pepper, to taste

  • In a 3 quart pot, saute onions in oil over medium heat for 10-15 minutes, until golden.
  • Add diced celery and saute another 5 minutes.
  • Drain mushrooms from can, reserve 1 cup of liquid. Add mushrooms to pot and saute over low heat for 30 minutes, covered.
  • Dissolve cornstarch in 1 cup of water. Pour mushroom liquid and cornstarch in water into pot. Raise heat and bring to a boil.
  • Lower flame, add spices cook for 10-15 minutes, until sauce thickens.
Freezes Well.
